Addi Road Education - Art, Action and 'Artivism'

Last week we had the opportunity to once again work with the amazing Addi Road Living Museum.

160 year 8 students from Burwood Girls High School visited the centre.  Students visited Radio Skid Row, Flight Path Theatre, sketched the Hollow tree and participated in two workshops delivered by the Assemblage Sisters.

Workshops were devised around recently published book "The Hollow Tree" by Mark Mordue, Robyn Chiles and Inner West School Children. Published by the Addision Road Community Centre.

Here are just a few images of the day.

The process of making art. Lessons in life.

Inspired by stained glass windows, L aged 7, has planned and created this pony painting. Taking time to arrange ideas and organise materials before realising the final art work is an important and transferable skill.  Children often rush their work because adults rush them. Let's give them time to learn and enjoy the process.  Here L has also learned about colour mixing and values, composition, brush techniques.    ...and had fun doing it.

Summer Hill Community Centre Open Day

We love community events. We always meet so many lovely people. The crew at Inner West Council and the Summer Hill Community Centre we so welcoming. Thanks to all involved. We made Mandalas A big shout out to the Bill Crews Foundation for a cracking BBQ. The team at 3 Bridges were keen to get making. And a special mention to all the lovely families we met on such a beautiful day.

Term 2 Wrap

A fun way to end term 2 after school art class. The students asked if they could paint on canvas. They agreed on a lily pad and koi painting. This is the work of K, aged 9. Our class is growing and we are having so much fun. Can't wait to see what art adventures next term brings. This was a guided painting lesson. While student led individual designs are celebrated in the studio, this activity allows me to demonstrate brush techniques and paint application. The students report that they enjoy using "real" paint brushes and mixing paint. The photo is a little washed out as one of the studio lights was off.
